An Inconvenient Truth (2006)

It is an interesting and somewhat convenient truth that Al Gore's senior thesis at Harvard was titled "The Impact of Television on the Conduct of the Presidency." Although his TV venture, Current TV, turned out to be a bit of a flop, he managed to redeem himself by making this doc.

The 11th Hour (2007)

Not to be confused with The Eleventh Hour, which came out the following year, this film uses celebrity to draw attention to environmental concerns. It's a little bizarre watching glamourpuss DiCaprio talk about global warming, and it's hard to say how much influence this film has actually had.
